Hi !! My name is Solenne.
This year I am volunteering with Familija together with three volunteers. We mainly work on two projects, BLOK and PUM-O+, and we switch between them every other week, which I really enjoy because it brings variety and allows me to learn a lot. We also collaborate with three other organizations, a few days each month.
BLOK is an after-school center where children come to relax, do homework, and join fun workshops that we organize for them. In PUM-O+, we support young people who are figuring out their future paths through project-based learning, by assisting mentors and guiding the youngsters along the way.
I finished my studies last June, and before starting to work, I felt the need for an experience abroad and to discover something completely new. That’s why I decided to join the Kids in Action project. It still connects to my field and my interest in social work, but when I saw that it was in Slovenia, I didn’t hesitate for a second. I had already visited the country before and kept wonderful memories. I truly don’t regret my choice: the nature here is INCREDIBLE, the landscapes are breathtaking, and the people are so kind !
I spend most of my free time outdoors, hiking or simply walking to enjoy the landscape (it even snowed last week and it was magical ! ). I’m also playing volleyball and I was lucky to find a lovely team here. I often meet friends during the week or on weekends, and we like to travel together or try new activities, last week, for example, we joined a focaccia workshop.
